Reiki
Reiki is love. Love is wholeness. Wholeness is balance. Balance is well-being. Well-being is freedom from disease
Dr. Mikao Usui
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy-based healing practice that can lessen the impact of stress by supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It can be helpful in dealing with:
- Acute and chronic pain or discomfort
- Preparing for surgery
- Post-surgical recovery
- Healing of wounds or injuries
- Feelings of stress, anxiety, and worry
- Sleep issues
Reiki works to help you achieve a deep state of mental and physiological rest. Developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan during the early 1900’s, Reiki was founded on the theory that the process of channeling one’s energy can restore an individual’s overall well-being.
Reiki is Holistic
In the Japanese Kanj writing system, the word Reiki comes from two characters—Rei and Ki (pronounced Ray-Key). Rei means universal or omnipresent—present everywhere at the same time. Ki means life force or life energy. It is the non-physical vitality that gives life to all living things.
There is a universal energy that gives life to every living organism. The Japanese call this energy Ki, and it’s called Chi by the Chinese. Asian cultures know it as Prana and the western world know it as the Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost.
Yoga and acupuncture aim to stimulate the flow of Ki around the body to maintain health and energetic balance. Acupuncture uses needles to clear energy blocks at specific points in the body, Yoga uses breathing exercises and meditation to activate and balance Ki, while Feng Shui looks to balance the flow of energy around a space, by arranging items in a way that creates more harmony. Reiki works to bring more of this good Ki energy into our lives, by working to remove any negative and stagnant energy and rebalance the flow of Ki around the whole mind, body, and spirit.
There are seven main energy centers in the body that control the flow of the universal life force. They are called "chakras".
Each chakra is responsible for supplying energy to specific parts of the body. When they are blocked or clogged the body becomes
sick and the flow of energy is diluted. A full Reiki treatment reopens the chakras and re-balances the flow of the universal life
force around the body.
The techniques used in Reiki are simple yet powerful, and the results can be remarkable. It doesn’t interfere with any medical treatments, has no adverse side effects and is suitable for everyone.
